Mondelez, Honour Your Commitments on Forests!

Be Slavery Free along with 24 other civil society organisations worldwide have urged Mondelez International to drop its calls for delaying the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

The regulation is essential to protect forests, safeguard farmers’ livelihoods, and ensure products like cocoa and chocolate are free from deforestation and human rights abuses.

Businesses have had years to prepare. Many companies are ready. Investors support it. European citizens demand it. More delays only reward laggards, penalise responsible businesses, and create uncertainty for smallholders.

The stakes are high: Côte d’Ivoire has already lost 94% of its forests since 1990. Forest loss is fuelling climate disruption and threatening the very future of cocoa. Meanwhile, this summer Europe has experienced the worst forest fires since records began. 1 million hectares of forests burned, tripling emissions from last year.

Mondelez once stood in support of this law. It should do so again — by backing full and timely implementation of the EUDR.
