Treats Without Tricks: Better Chocolate Is Closer Than You Think
Halloween is all about fun, costumes, and candy — but what if your treats could reflect the values you care about?
The good news? You don’t have to go out of your way, spend more money, or limit your choices to make a better decision.
🍫 Better Chocolate Is Already on the Shelf
Many of the chocolate brands you see in your local supermarket are rated on the Chocolate Scorecard, which looks at how companies are doing on issues like child labour, farmer income, and environmental impact.
Some are doing better than others — and you can choose those without changing your Halloween budget or driving across the city.

✅ You’re Already Spending the Money — Just Spend It Smarter
We’re not asking you to spend more. We’re asking you to spend smarter.
Instead of grabbing the cheapest mixed bag, take a moment to check the brand. Nestlé (makers of KitKat, Smarties, Rolo, Crunch) ranks highest out of the six biggest chocolate companies on the Chocolate Scorecard.
Mars (makers of Twix, M&M’s, and Maltesers) isn’t far behind either.
And if you’re looking for the top performer overall? Tony’s Chocolonely leads the way - and it’s now easy to find at major supermarkets like Coles, Woolworths and sometimes Aldi too.
🚫 Who’s Ghosting the Chocolate Scorecard?
Some companies still refuse to be transparent. Mondelez, the maker of Cadbury, Cherry Ripe, Caramello Koala and more, has declined to participate in the Chocolate Scorecard.
If there’s nothing to hide, there’s no reason not to show up.
We’re calling on Mondelez to join the 7th edition of the Scorecard and be part of the solution.
There are plenty of other chocolate companies being more transparent and showing how they’re working to improve conditions for farmers and workers. Let’s support those who are stepping up.
